Friends of the GreenWay have re-stated that the GreenWay must include a safe off-road pathway, and we continue to campaign for the re-instatement of funding.
On Tuesday 13th December the Friends of the GreenWay held its annual general meeting. Such a meeting is required for incorporated associations. Liz, Jennifer, Mark, Greg and Bruce were elected to serve on the committe for the coming year.
It’s encouraging that all office holder positions were filled and the Friends group now has a solid base from which to begin its activities in 2012. There’s little doubt that 2012 is looming as an important year for the GreenWay, with detailed design for the light rail extension likely to be undertaken.
The new committee will be looking to increase grass-roots support and active participation in the GreenWay campaign and hopes to make some announcements about this soon. An immediate priority is to get to 10,000 signatures on petitions to NSW Parliament, to force a debate on the GreenWay. If you can help out in the New Year please contact Jennifer at email@example.com. We’ve got no doubt that the GreenWay vision has overwhelming support across the inner-west and indeed Sydney region.
Sam Byrne and Jud Agius announced they were stepping down from the committee, although they will remain active within the group. We thank both Sam and Jud for their long-standing work on the committee – and we still look forward to seeing them out and about supporting the GreenWay!
We are close to getting the 10,000 signatures on our petition which will trigger a debate in parliment. The count is about 8,200 but we need help now in the Leichhardt area.
We need people to help on two stalls before Christmas:
Orange Grove Markets on 17th of December from 9.00 to 12.00. Even if people could come for an hour it would be a great help.
Secondly there is the Christmas Carols event on the 18th December from 6.00 to 9.00 at Pioneer Park, Leichhardt (If wet at the Italian Culture Centre in the Forum). We need people to man a small stall and to collect signatures from the crowd. The mayor, Rochelle Porteous will mention the GreenWay in her speech.
Contact Jennifer at firstname.lastname@example.org with the event and time you can help out.
Annual General Meeting – 13th December
When: 7.30pm Tuesday 13 December 2011
Where: Seaview Street Hall, 12-14 Seaview Street, Dulwich Hill
We will reflect on a tough year and plan how we will build on our momentum to save the GreenWay in 2012. We will also set the membership fees for this year and elect a new committee.
Nominations for convenor, secretary, treasurer and up to 7 other committee members should be lodged by email with Secretary Greg at email@example.com or at the meeting.
There is no doubt 2012 will be a crucial year for the GreenWay so please consider putting up your hand for the committee. The GreenWay needs you this year more than any.
